Feather Artist Club SR - Kamisori type Razor

I have the "big" brother of this razor which is the Feather Artist Club DX but I wanted to try this particular one also. I do like a razor that has some weight and further more, a Razor that lets you choose the angle to accommodate the different areas of your face. There was no doubt that the SR is all I expected it to be and more.. When I read the write up on the Feather Artist Club SR. I was intrigued by the description, the fact that it was heavier than the Feather Artist Club SS and it had a non slip resin handle. I purchased the Feather Artist Club Kamisori style because I find that style a lot easier to shave with and more precise trimming in hard to reach spots. . This Razor also has a great Resin non-slip handle and it does feel somewhat like the DX. I saw a Youtube video demonstrating this Feather Artist Club and and that what made me decide to try it out. I immediately felt the quality of this razor when I opened the box and, fitted it into my hand. It felt like it belonged there and was right at home. It was a really comfortable gripe. What I prefer is the short straight handle and not the L shape one that is associated with conventional european style straight razos. Another reason for my wanting a razor like this is for when I travel for my job, it is so nicely portable, no strops etc. required. Wonderful! Getting to the shave, I was very pleasantly surprised how smoothly it fit my hand and, being careful with selecting my angle, I found it so easy. The weight of the razor itself did the job, all I had to do was guide it, even in the tricky spots along the jawline and below. This is where stretching your skin as is recommended with most blade razors is almost mandatory. I did not feel any "pull" at all, it was such a smooth shave that I had to check a few times to see if it really did shave that area. Unbelievable! Being a straight razor user I was aware of the danger of being a bit careless so I gave it my full concentration (essential attitude when using a wet shave razor). Not a cut,nor a weeper. The rounded top in this razor makes it more forgiving than other versions. This razor gives one glorious shave. I include it in my rotation now and will gravitate to it more often. Just think, no honing, stropping etc. Ideal for those days when you do not have the time for that. I used to be mildly amused at Shavettes but the Feather Kamisori type Razors changed my perspective. They are Professional Class, no doubt about it. I use the Feather Artist Club Professional Super Blades although they recommend a less aggressive blade. The Feather Artist Club SR has a specially formed ronded tip which makes a huge difference. Precision engineering at its best. Personal Opinion. I believe that this particular razor is the right one for those new to straight razor shaving or seasond pros. I am a believer that starting out with a low quality instrument such as a musical instrument , camera, razor etc. can put more people off than encourage them. Feather Artist club razors are top quality. If you are new to it, the best way to find your shaving angle is to lay the blade flat against your cheek then tilt it outwards about the width of the head of the razor.. You'll find your angle. Important, let the weight of the razor do the work, do not press or apply pressure. Remember to concentrate on what you are doing. For seasoned Straight Razor users this is a treat not to be missed. It is different and so will add variety to your routine. This razor is a bit pricey but there is no buyers remorse om my part. Comparing to others I find it reasonable. The above is a personal opinion and experience however I doubt you would be disappointed if you got one. Fendrihan had this razor at a reasonable price and were pleasant to deal with.
