Timor Hamburg Ring Straight Razor 6/8', Blond Horn Scales

I have had this razor for several months and in the time I have owned it I have learned to appreciate it more. First off the scales are stunning. Mine were slightly bent (This is normal for this type of material but with a bit of care when closing I manage to avoid the blade hitting them and dulling the edge) but this is probably the most beautiful razor you can get for this amount of money anywhere. The blade is quite heavy and while they call it a hollow ground I suspect that it may be closer to a half hollow ground. When properly honed it is a joy to shave with though it comes out of the box just slightly sharper than a spoon. Take your time and set a bevel, hone and polish it and you'll get it sharp enough to split any hair on your face. Conversely you can send it out for honing and Fendrihan is very helpful if asked for a referral.. I tossed that around before investing in a few waterstones and some Cromox and doing it myself. Now the negatives.... As beautiful as it is this is not a high end razor. There is no jimping on the shank (I know this can also be true on more expensive razors) and there is almost no stamping other than a label on one side of the blade. The makers mark (Giesen and Forsthoff) appears to be laser etched lightly onto the opposite side of the stamped label. this etching and stamping provides almost no index to you feel of the razor in your hand and quite the opposite of the other razor I purchased from Fendrihan (A Thiers Issard Fox and Rooster) which as several marks to help you feel the position of the blade in your hand. On balance I enjoy using this but not as much as some of my others but when I do use it it gives me excellent results. It also is probably my best looker especially when closed.
