First Impressions

My beloved old 38c broke. I loved it so much I bought a new one. Unfortunately my 38c was a much more aggressive razor than the new 38c. It is so mild that even with multiple passes it left a lot of rough stubble. If you need a mild razor then this current version of the 38c might be for you but I am not sure it is going to work for me. I also found that the tightening knob on the bottom of the razor loosens during the shave, I had to tighten it several times.

Complete Newbie - Great experience

As a first safety razor and being someone who has never ever enjoyed shaving, this razor has changed all that. It gives a great shave with a forgiving amount of play in the blade pitch. The weight of the handle is great and effortlessly glides through the stubble. Changing blades is simple and straightforward using a screw closure meaning a firm hold on the blade, ensuring you get a great shave every time. Using the right shaving cream and pre-shave oil certainly helps to get a close shave without irritation. Truly a great first safety razor.

Worth It

It literally arrived in the post, and because I waited 4 days in anticipation of this arrival, I was able to shave right away. I used Derby blades, which in the past were the best for my face. I had a Edwin Jagger for 5 years but the Chrome had peeled away causing skin rips. The weight is very nice and of course the product is immaculately conceived and executed. I did not know the head would screw in from the bottom, and I like it. If you’re at all concerned about the quality or price don’t worry it’s a great product and looks stunning. As I said I used a new Derby blade, and the Fendrihan Charcoal cream, the shave produced no tears or bleeding which has been a consistent issue in the past.

Razor

This razor does the job. I was having trouble with butterfly closure razors so I ordered this make which has one simple screw on head. Nice heft to the handle gives a close shave. I use it on my legs because I am done destroying the environment by purchasing pink plastic disposable razors.

Game Changer

I had dabbled with a DE in the past using a cheap $10 Lord DE with Bluebird blades and it was a total disaster, I was nothing but nicks and razor burn and the shave was not all that close. So I returned to cartridge razors. Wanting to try the DE again I decided to get a decent quality razor and a pack of feather blades to see how it would work out. I just had my Merkur 38C delivered yesterday and was nervous to see if I had just blown a lot of money. Hesitantly I tried it out just now and did not want to get too fancy so I just stuck to a single pass. Immediately I realized this was the best shave I have ever had and I have still yet to master the art of using a DE, I cannot recommend this product enough. I have never been a dry shaver but had poor experiences with DEs and not that I have the proper gear I am a very happy camper! I admittedly did nick myself on one spot, but I was expecting to have to go through a huge learning curve, this blade did all the work and I have the best shave I have ever had. I am looking forward to my next shave, and I think I have a new store to **** up my hard-earned money!

After getting tired of using my wife's hairbrush for many years, I decided to get my own and one with a bit of class. This isn't that much more expensive than plastic ones you'd find anywhere but this seems much better made. It does a real nice job getting the hair brushed and sitting in the right location as the bristles are fairly close together. Feels good in the hand, feels smooth on the scalp, and this one built for thicker hair seems to work just fine on my thinning hair too. Other reviews of brushes like this talk about the bristles falling out but I can't see how that would happen unless you're really going to town on someone's hair for a long time.

Good weight, mechanism holding the cartridge on seems solid thus far, and overall build quality is excellent. No issues getting the cartridge on/off and the various widths would fit in pretty much any counter top stand. I'm the third generation user of this scent and I've lost count of then number of years that I've been wearing it. I have very distinct memories of my grandfather in Portugal slapping this on after his shave. Still such a timeless, fresh scent to wear.

Everything about this brush is remarkable. It's the best detangler and styling brush ever for thick & wavy hair. The wooden bristles feel great, the handle is pleasant to hold, it's small and sturdy enough to drop into a tote pocket for all-day use. I'm completely happy with the purchase.

Test drove it for the first time on a 3 day growth of stubble, and was very happy overall with how it performed. Rather than using my go-to Wilkinson or Gillette Silver Blue blades, I simply used the RK blades that came with the razor. It will take a bit of practice to get it just right with this one, since it is much lighter than the other stainless steel or brass razors that I own. You need to rely less on the weight of the razor to knock down the thicker growth and more on the pressure you apply, so that will take some adjustment. Compared to a lot of other razors I see out there and have bought, I think the pricing was pretty reasonable especially in light of the shave and build quality. An excellent Canadian made product!
