Shapton Glass Sharpening Stone, 16000 Grit

I bought that stone for final sharpening of my straight razors. Very satisfied with the results. No need to soak in water, just a splash of water and you are ready to go.

16000 shapton was my first but not last. I try to take anything on the internet with a grain of salt, let’s face it, some stuff is made up.

16000 shapton was my first but not last. I try to take anything on the internet with a grain of salt, let’s face it, some stuff is made up. However after some consideration I ordered a 16k and as advertised, it cuts very fast and did immediately elevate the quality of the edge. I’ve got about 1/4 inch of some 8000 grit "King stone”, which worked very well. from there going to the shapton works very, very, very well indeed. When replacing that 8k, I will definitely go with Shapton. You can get cheaper stones all right, but they don’t work like this

Super finisher

I try many stone as finisher. I have really hard hair on face. Only sharper DE blade work with me. I try Norton 8K and natural stone Hybrid coticule, Shoubudani and another chines stone as finisher. And this stone give me the sharpest and best result suited for my face. Some argu that natural stone give you a nice smooth feel and random patern on the blade. I need something with consistent result and easy to deal with and after spending 700$ on natural stone and come back to this one I'm extremly pleased and finaly find my finisher stone. That my experience. So I do my progresssion from 1k Naniwa, 4/8K Norton and this stone. Light stroke, glass magnifier, lap stone for each honning razor. The Shapton 16K is really efficient you feel it gently removing stuff. But be sure to remove every scratch from 4k/8k before this stone. With all the monney I spend I should have buy the Shapton kit at first and probably more happy and lost less time but we live and learn.

Shapton Glass Sharpening Stone, 16000 Grit

The 16k Shapton is a great stone, and I often find myself spending quite a bit of time on it polishing up the edge and refining it. This stone is, by all means, a finisher, however, Shapton also has a 30k stone, which is what I consider to be the true Shapton finisher (just under .5 micron). At that point it comes down to personal preference, and like I said, this is an excellent stone and anyone shaving with an edge off this stone would be more than happy with the results.
