    • Yellow coticule with 8000 grit (without a slurry), 6000 grit (with slurry)
    • Blue coticule with 4000 grit
    • Blue coticule resharpens dull edges; Yellow coticule finishes and refines edges
    • Non-porous stone that does not require pre-soaking before use
    • Splash stone with water before use
    • Slurry sold separately
    • Beginner friendly
    • The difference between the standard and select grade coticules lies only in their appearance. Both stone grades have identical sharpening qualities.

    TO USE

    • Very hard stone( harder that most artificial wet stones) but will still need lapping before first usage and from time to time.
    • To lap: use a lapping stone (i.e DMT-8C 325 coarse diamond sharpening stone or Norton Lapping Stone) or with sandpaper on a very flat surface (i.e. glass).
    • Tip: the long edges of the stone should be rounded slightly with a lapping stone or sandpaper. This way the risk of denting the blade in a normal honing motion across the stone is greatly reduced.

    MATERIALS

    • Natural sharpening stones
    • Note: These are two natural stones and each stone is one-of-a-kind. The photo is for illustration purposes ONLY, and might not accurately represent the Belgian Yellow Coticule stone you will actually receive.

Great Product. Over-Priced. Customer Service has trouble with the English language.

1. Delivery was fast. Fendrihan continues to impress me with their fulfillment process. Speed and accuracy. 2. The stone cuts well, especially with the slurry stones. It's a pleasure to use. 4. The slurry stones are the real bargain, as they can be used freehand on curved kitchen knives. 5. However, for the price, Shapton stones are the better choice. Shapton will produce an edge just as fast, and you can get 2 stones for the price of this one coticule. 6. Finally, I asked customer service for the height of the stone. Bear in mind that the product description is 6"x2". Customer service responded: 2". Fantastic, I thought. I ordered it. When it came, guess what? It's height was 11/16th. No box, just wrapped in paper wadding. For comparison, I purchased a 4x2x7/8 stone for $15 (this year) at an antique show. I won't be asking customer service for dimensions again, ever. And to the procurement folks, "don't re-order".

First Coticule

This is my first coti and I'm really impressed. I've played around with other natural stones and wanted to develop my skills. At my first attempt I got a a razor to shave ready with a couple of hours of work Looking forward to experimenting more with it. With a slurry it cuts fast, you can see the metal darkening the slurry, then with just water it polishes and finishes nicely.

Very good stone

Usually when buying sight unseen coticules you hold your breath until it arrives and you use it. Only after that can you let a sigh of relief or a sigh of despair. Coticule are so variable in properties. I.e. Hardness, speed, slurry keenness restricting properties etc. Getting a good one is kind of a gamble. You can get a **** one, a decent one or a great one. That's all luck if the draw especially sight unseen. Although pictures of the actual stone would be a bonus. I understand the time it would take fendrihan staff to take and upload pictures of every coticule stone they've got in their inventory. Not feasible. Anyways I have went through about 20 stones until this one arrived and it has been the most consistent and useful coticule I own. Easily can take a razor from bevel set to shaving sharp. The Belgian blue side to me is a little useless but I like to have it there just to play around with. If fendrihan has more stones like this in their stock I would say get one before it's gone. A nice hard "Las Petas" vein as named by the mine is what I received. Trade mark characteristics are a bluish green swirling through the yellow surface of the stone and a pebbly/grainy sensation when drawing the blade over the surface on water only. The one I got is also very hard rendering it super easy to finish a razor glare on. 5/5 and it arrived in 2 days. Talk about a spur of the moment buy. Well worth the consideration and 6x2" is the perfect size.

Natural Combo Coticule (Blue and Yellow) 6x2', Standard Grade

They say that a coti is a difficult stone to learn honing on. After much reading on, rather than buy multiple stones of various grits, I decided to take the coti-plunge and with the help of Cotilicule.be and the instructions on the dilucot method (http://www.coticule.be/dilucot-honing-method.html) two things happened. I was able to refresh the edge on my wapi to get a good shave (only took 2 attempts at honing), and two, I was able to put a good enough edge on my Le Grelot to get a shave from (it came with TI factory edge, which is too rough to shave with). I still have a LONG way to gone in learning to hone, but using a coti for the first time is not as intimidating as many make out. I strongly recommend a coti to those with the desire to hone their own straights.
